Now I know we’re college students and can get pretty lazy now and then, but if you’re a makeup user one thing you cannot be lazy about is cleaning your makeup brushes! Here are some reasons why:
It Prolongs the Life of your Brushes
A makeup brush should definitely last you longer than a year or even two. If you wind up neglecting their care you can ruin them to the point that they are no longer usable because of all the gunk build up. Also makeup brushes can be really expensive. If you have to keep reinvesting in them you’re really just wasting your money. Makeup brushes have a pretty long lifespan if you treat them well, so you don’t need to be re-buying every year.
It Helps your Makeup Look Better
This shouldn’t come as a shock, but cleaning your makeup brushes makes your makeup application look better. Because your brushes are clean they can glide onto your face smoother. You won’t have a cake face or streaky makeup because you bristles are clean enough to apply your makeup flawlessly.
Prevents Acne
This should be an obvious one as well! I think this reason is also one of the biggest ones that should convince you to wash your brushes. No-one likes acne! Why would you want to keep using a dirty brush to your face every day knowing that this will happen to you?
Prevents Wrinkles
Cleaning your brushes also helps to prevent wrinkles! Because the gunk in the brush isn’t tugging and pulling at your skin it is less likely for wrinkles to develop. Makeup brushes are made to be soft so they don’t ruin your skin. If you don’t clean them they can becomes stiff and no longer good to use on your skin.
To Clean your Brushes
I would recommend cleaning your brushes at least every 2 weeks but sooner than that is better. You can keep a good eye and see if there’s a lot product build up to know when to clean your brushes as well. You can clean your brushes with cleaners specifically for makeup brushes, soap, or even olive oil.
I like your tips and I’m glad to hear others clean their brushes too. I agree that the cleaner your brushes are will prevent bacteria from spreading on your face which causes acne. Thanks for the post!

YAAASS!!! Brush cleaning is essential for proper hygiene and a prolonged brush life. Not to mention it can get incredibly gross if you don’t…. I’ve found that getting on a schedule of how often I want to clean my brushes has worked the best.

I NEVER clean my brushes. I did debate getting one of those new automatic brush cleaners though… I’d like to think that it would make me clean them more often, but I’m not so sure it would.
